Beyond Manufacturing

From Vendor. To Problem Solver. To Trusted Supply Chain Advisor.

For more than four decades, we have worked in the garment industry.

And one thing we have learned is that brands do not simply need vendors. They need partners who understand what they are trying to build.

A traditional vendor waits for a tech pack, provides a price, manufactures the garment and ships the order. We believe our responsibility goes much further.

At Business Direct Ltd., our journey has evolved from being a garment vendor to becoming a problem solver, supply chain partner and advisor to the brands we work with.

We help our customers answer a much bigger question:

“How do we turn this idea into a commercially successful product and build a supply chain capable of growing with the brand?”

A Brand Journey We Are Proud Of

Growing Together — The Araminta James Story

One of the best examples of our philosophy is our relationship with Araminta James, Australia. We had the opportunity to work with the brand during its early journey.

At that stage, our role was not simply to take orders and manufacture garments.

We listened.

We understood the founders' vision, their product direction and the kind of brand they wanted to create. Then we used decades of manufacturing and sourcing experience to help turn those ideas into physical products.

In the beginning, we were their vendor. But as the brand grew, the relationship grew with it.

Chapter one

We Became Problem Solvers

Growing fashion brands encounter challenges every day.

  • Which factory is right for a particular product?
  • Which fabric will give the desired look and hand feel?
  • How can a design be engineered to achieve the target price without losing its character?
  • What construction will perform better?
  • How can minimum quantities be managed?
  • Should a product be manufactured in China or India?
  • How can quality remain consistent as volumes and categories expand?
  • How can lead times be shortened?

And when something inevitably goes wrong, how do we solve it quickly enough that the consumer never knows there was a problem?

This is where decades of experience matter. Instead of simply saying “yes” or “no” to a customer's request, our approach is:

“Let us find a solution.”

Chapter two

From Problem Solver to Supply Chain Partner

As our relationship with Araminta James developed, we became increasingly involved across their product supply chain.

Our manufacturing capabilities in China and India allowed us to match different product categories with the manufacturing base best suited to them.

Rather than forcing every product through one factory, we could draw upon different capabilities, materials and manufacturing strengths.

Product by product.
Season by season.
Collection by collection.

Today, we are proud that our relationship has developed to the point where we manufacture the apparel range they sell across multiple categories.

But the achievement we value most is not the number of garments produced.

It is the trust behind the relationship.

Chapter three

From Supply Chain Partner to Advisor

There comes a point in a successful customer-supplier relationship when conversations change.

The discussion is no longer simply: “How much will this garment cost?”

It becomes:

“What do you think we should do?”

That is the relationship we aspire to build with every customer.

After more than four decades in garments and over three decades of international sourcing across China and India, our greatest value is no longer simply access to factories. It is experience.

  • We understand manufacturing.
  • We understand sourcing.
  • We understand factories.
  • We understand costing.
  • We understand product development.
  • We understand quality.
  • We understand the realities of production.

And, importantly, we understand that every brand is different.

Our role is therefore not to tell designers how to design or brands how to build their identity. Our role is to bring the manufacturing and supply-chain intelligence that helps their creative vision become commercially viable.

We Don't Want to Be Your Biggest Supplier

We Want to Be the Supplier You Call First When There Is a Problem.

That distinction defines Business Direct.

When everything is running smoothly, many suppliers can manufacture a garment. The real test of a supply-chain partner comes when something doesn't go according to plan.

Those are the moments when experience matters.

Our teams in India and China work together with our manufacturing partners to find practical solutions. Because our responsibility does not end when we receive a purchase order.

We take ownership of the journey from product concept to delivery.

  • A fabric does not perform as expected.
  • A delivery window suddenly changes.
  • A design becomes difficult to manufacture commercially.
  • A factory reaches capacity.
  • A minimum order becomes challenging.
  • A quality issue appears during production.
  • Or a rapidly growing brand suddenly needs capabilities it did not need twelve months earlier.

Built for Brands That Want to Grow

The kind of partnership we want to build next.

Our experience with Araminta James represents the kind of partnership we want to build with the next generation of fashion businesses.

Some of the world's successful brands started with a small team, a clear idea and enormous ambition. They did not necessarily need the world's largest garment supplier.

They needed someone who would listen to them, believe in their vision, solve problems with them and build a supply chain capable of growing alongside them.

That is where we believe Business Direct can make a difference.

We can start as your vendor. Earn the opportunity to become your problem solver. Grow into your supply chain partner. And, with time and trust, become an advisor you can rely on.
